Bizzare behaviour from the wife TWO

Following on from Bizzare behaviour from the wife??one another series of bizzare events have recentl taken place

1. she who hates tech brought me a well cool 7″ LCD TV for valentines Day
2. she who hates tech was extremely happy with the digital photo frame??I had brought her ( i was expecting a serious telling off)
3. While sat in the lounge in the Brighton Ramada Jarvis Hotel she says “is that the wireless thingy with the flashing lights”
4. she who hates tech is allowing me to setup a Asterisk /trixbox (VOIP PBX) for the kids, when i go to MS in Redmond??next month, to allow them to call me for free when ever they want,

although she still hates my amateur radio license, but that has more to do with bird siting on my aerials and crapping on the path at the side of the house 🙁

My Friday lunch time as set to become a lunch I would not forget

Arrived back at my desk, usual CTRL-ALT-DEL to unlock my laptop, enter password, BSOD !???? BUGGER
Reboot, “a disk read error has occured, Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart” BUGGER, BUGGER, BUGGER
call helpdesk and arrange new disk, should be all sorted in a few days

Then comes that realisation moment,??I have just archived 3 week of email to PST and not yet done a backup, FUCK FUCK BUGGER BOLLOCKS

Pack up and head home, here is have a maplin USB / IDE interface, so connect up and see what i get
XP sees the disk 🙂
but cant see any partitions 🙁

Then along comes Stellar Phoenix partition recovery tools, What a fantastic bit of kit, it??will do a full disk scan and recover almost anything, with repeated retrys for duff data. They even have a demo version which allows you to??see if the tool will??get your data or not.

To cut??a long story short,?? 90 Euros and 4 hours Later,??I have ALL of my data

Now??I just have to wait for the kind helpdesk monkey to come and replace the drive and re image!!!!

Oh and then re install al the non standard apps??I need ……??

O2 PUK Code,

What a complete waste of time

my wife managed to block the SIM is one of my O2 phones

so??I called O2 on 08702410202 , got to an automated system which gave me my PUK code
and the only question it asked was the phone number !

So if i was one of those people who stick the number of my pool phone on the back of the phone with DYMO tape, the SIM PIN woudl be completely pointless

??

following on from the bloke in the UK getting a heavy fine for using a bit of free bandwidth

this seems a touch much

My Dad (64) fixes PC, Shock horror

Had a call from my dad this morning, “my computer is tits up, switched it on this morning and it went BANG !”

He is an electrical heating engineer, so is no stranger to pulling electrical stuff apart, and replacing a few bit and bobs

Told him where to buy a NEW PSU (not PCWorld, glouester has a little shop with Good prices for such things)
90 minutes later, he calls back to say ??18 quid later his computer is now working again !!!

Horray !!!!!!!!!!!

At last, something worth hacking into

Just annoyed i did not manage it first !

Rude awakening for dawn drivers

Away in the Brecons

Been Away again this weekend just gone,
had a small dilemma, it was my week for primary callout, so I had to be within 30-45 minutes of a good internet connection and have good mobile phone coverage, normally this is not a problem, but if I get called out at 0200 and have been drinking, driving to the nearest McDonalds, is not a good plan !!
SO enter the wife???s worst nightmare, a campsite with WiFi !
Arrive on site, setup the caravan etc, crack out the beer :-)??, and go for a wander round with the PDA, not a bad setup, netgear 8dB twig on the main building, and a second one??with WiFI AP in repeater mode in the second field, NICE !!!
Sure enough, I get called out, a noddy called out, but still an official excuse to try the wifi 🙂
Used the Netgear USB adaptor I have, as this proves more reliable that the built in card in the jujitsu craptop I have for work, it is also a lot easier to more around for best signal !
Voila, network up, VPN up, logged on , all sorted, back to the beer !!!!!
