Someone in my immediate family decided it would be good to go ice skating on Sunday, ??22 later for a family ticket, there I am making a pratt of myself on the ICE, being over taken my 8 year olds
Having fallen over a few times, I now have a few bruises, aches and pains
Once we had finished making a complete fool of our selves, we decided to sit back and watch the Swindon Junior ice hockey team match, and was shocked to see 5 years olds skating around like they were born with skates on , so annoying
I had the unfortunately pleasure of having to drive to Altrincham Near Manchester for a meeting. When I got to the Cheshire border I discovers that the Cheshire police have deployed not ONE but FIVE police patrol vehicle on the M6, TWO had pulled cars over, TWO were on bridges and once was running a pace car doing 70 MPH, not the usual 60 so you can creep past,
It???s been a long time since I had an Indian take away, but Friday night the urge got the better of me
So we call the local, trusty garlic Indian, and waited for it to arrive, 45 mins later, one steaming hot madras for me and a Korma for the wife. Then it all went horribly wrong
The Fuckers have a NEW chef, the Madras was more curry flavour tomato sauce, Wikipedia says ???Madras curry or Madras sauce is a fairly hot curry sauce, red in colour and with heavy use of chilli powder??? this was more the was out of a empty chilli box.
Then the wife exclaims ???there is stuff in the korma??? for be more precise sultanas, she hates fruit of any kind in cooked food. Some may say sultanas are supposed to be there, but we have not seen them before in a korma from this place
End Result, no more Indian take ways (deliveries) from the garlic, so may have to go for collections from the Polash instead, however they are very slow, but next to a pub !
My son got a copy of the Nintendo DS transformers game for XMAS, and decided to try out the WiFi features over the weekend.
I had heard the some WiFi routers and access point do not work well as the DS wireless if not fully WiFi compliant. They aren???t kidding, more like not RFC compliant in many areas.
NO support for NON wep security
A TCP/IP stack that does not confirm it has taken the DHCP address it was offered and then does not respond to ping, instead it just uses it and says nothing, so the next new device connects to the network, gets the same address, and the DS gets kicked off,
This make an intersting read
HOW TO: wordpress on IIS7 with some extras too
Decided to upgrade my SKY in the dining room to SKY+, I had a old box which was not too reliable, but once it booted up it was OK, (some funny microcontroller fault, not any of the usual well documented faults)
First stumbling block, the wife, insists on nice face plates for all the cables, so I need to buy a double plate to replace the current single one, so off to maplins we go. Double Face plate and a few meters of decent coax, the dish is only just the other side of the wall, so nice and simple.
Managed to pick the windiest day on 2008 so far, but got the New bit of coax from the QUAD LNB to the dining installed without dropping the ladder into the conservatory window.
Now for the inside stuff, connect all the leads and switch on, WHOO HOOO, good signal on both inputs, call sky to get the card re-paired to the NEW receiver
To damn quick, 30 mins later the box locked up and refused to BOOT
BOLLOCKs, Hello Ebay ?????????..
Well after waiting 3 weeks by FON router (with optional 7dB antenna) finally arrived on Friday
Much to my surprise, it did the business straight out of the box
Plugged it in to my network and away it went (using the serial no for the private network WPA key)
Logged into the FON web site via the FON_AP public WiFi configure the location and that is it done, the FON locate WiFi maps now shows my house as a FON node.
Jobs a good???n
It is a condition of my house insurance that I have a catalog of ALL my DVDs. I used to use a package called DVD profiler from invelos. After some digging I found my old licence key, which was upgraded for free to the latest version, they do a mobile version too, which means I can keep a copy on my PDA and know what DVDs I have next time I see any on offer (During that catalog I discovered I had two copies of memento and goonies). The software support bulk entry using a bar code scanner, which being a tech hoarder I have one stashed away which I acquired some time ago.
Now this is where the fun starts…..
Apparently bar code readers can be programmed, with pre amble and post amble characters, and various other options. This one seemed to be programmed to insert and ‘ESCAPE’ before the output and a ‘CR’ after, so in notepad it all looked fine, but the escape caused the data entry screen to ‘cancel’ DOH!
Time to RTFM for the scanner, to program the scanner, you scan special bar code from the programming manual.?? So print the manual, 10 Blank pages later, power cycle printer, 10 more blank pages, clean heads, 10 more blank pages, replace black ink, 10 more blank pages. DOH !!!!!!!
Of to the shops for a NEW printer, being a fully networked house hold it would be nice to have a network aware printer, and I hate trying to work out whats what from online reviews, so 5 shops and lots of box reading and helpless staff later, cheap Lexmark wireless printer from Sainsburys !
Print Manual, re program the reader, sorted.
Nah not that easy, some DVD barcodes have check digit, which is not sent by the reader, but it expected by the software, read the manual again, and enable check digit transmit,
Sorted, 350 Bar codes later. All done, 6 hours after I started !!!!!!!!!!!
