Following on from what in hind sight were Minor Problems
My Brake pad warning light has come one? DOH!
Hmmm, I thought low brake pad shoudl have been picked up on the MOT…..
But according to the various MOT web sites, they can only fail the brakes if they can see the problem.
I.E. if you have an old car with a metal brake fluuid bottle, it wont fail an MOT for low brake Fluid
(one to note for future)
So have a quick look at the brakes, and decide the discs probably wont last another set of pads.
Time to go online Shopping… Brakes International produced the goods…
Then alongs comes the first WET weekend in months. OH Well lets go for it, jack up the car and start to dismantle the front wheel
BTW I have Never worked on Frontera wheels before. Was I ever in for shock !!!!!!!!!
The Front Discs, are on the BACK of the front Wheel hubs, NOOOOOooo. that means take the wheel bearings apart….
The Stub axle is almost 2 inches in diameter and Hollow with a 1 inch drive shaft up the middle
So
Remove the Drive Shaft cover
Remove the Drive Shaft to wheel hub Splined plate and circlip
Remove the Wheel Bearing Locking plate (what no castle nut)
Inspect the wheel bearing retaining nut, Hmm no flats.
Scope out grease and spot two holes which accept a suitable socket to un do the nut…
Do I own such a tool, do I hell as like
so put it al back together,
More Google required, I have 3-4 mm of pad left, so not urgent. but must be sorted soon…..
