Got a call from the sister in law last week, her Dyson DC07 was as dead as a door nail,
When I arrived at her house, it had decided to work, well sort, sounding like a arc welder and blowing thick black smoke out of the motor exhaust
Time to get the toolkit out, 45 minutes later o have a YDK motor in my hands with a badly damaged commutator, which has also destroyed the brushes.
Ebay shops provided a suitable , genuine Dyson replacement motor for ??27 +P&P. I must say Dyson rocks, you can buy ANYTHING as a spare part, motors, switches any plastic part…
Now the fun part, Re-assembling and large box full of plastic parts and a bag of screws,
This web site provided some useful information,
The only tricky bit was getting the rubber encased motor back in to its plastics housing, it is a very tight fit. After 15 minutes of pushing and shoving, I gave up and got the washing up liquid out.
Washing up liquid makes a superb lubricant in this situation as it dries !!!
So that is the motor back in the casing, just the plastic multicoloured jigsaw puzzle left
Took just over an hour to reassemble in the end,
So one happy sister in law and one fully repaired DC07 for less than ??35
