This mornings Metro (south west edition) had an article going on about the high numbers of internet hacking attacks on PCs left switched on while connected to the internet, but the article was badly written, while it did mention “unprotected PCs”, but did not say that the PC had to be “directly” connected to the internet or even mention??that for as little as ??40 can purchase a router with integrated firewall which will provide and excellent first line of defence againt 99% of the??hacks which normally take out PCs which are left swicthed on !??
I??can only assume a similar article appeared in one of the tabloids, so i will probably spend this evening being bombarded by calls from various friends and family on the matter,???? 🙁 🙁 🙁
Due to the lack of any decent excuse to go to the pub, I do a pub quiz on a sunday night, with a few other guys I know from my sons school or cubs !
I will admit that on an occasional basis we have resorted to a quick google on my works blackberry or my personal O2 XDA-Mini S…
This weekend, however was some what odd,
Firstly some bloke i have not seem before, walks into the pub and starts messing with a PDA, no drink, and stood in a part of the pub where wireless does not work, a quick bluetooth scan revealed a cleverly named device “no devices found” which??I asumme is an attempt to stop the unsavy from attempting any bluetooth hacking ..
This device then vanishes the same time this bloke did !!!!
Then we got wiped out in the last round, but a question about?? adolf hitler , reducing our score to a paltry 38/60

Then for the realy odd one, the second place team was called “No Blackberry Here!” which is a meaningless name to most people in an average pub. So??I can only think it is a jab at the fact someone thinks someother team is using a blackberry to use google .

Well after my lucky escape, bikes are really begining to piss me off….
I went out saturday evening to pick up my 9 year old son from a friends house, he had cycled there, but had stayed for dinner, so it was now dark.
Lifted his bike onto the top of my car, and was in the process of tightening the clamp on the support bar, when??I lost my balance ( was stood on sill of car with door open, serves me right for having a big car, NOTE to self , get small step ladder next time), so I stepped back onto terra firma,??and was about to re attack the tightening of the clamp, when the bike slipped out of the clamp and gravity was doing its thing.

Caught it, phew !???????? now annoyed, so stuffed it in the boot and drove home!
Got home wandering my my left wrist was hurting, took some nurophen and thought no more of it
Woke up sunday morning and the first thing i notice is my wrist (OUCH !!!!), off to A&E

when it did not arrive i chased the vendor, who gave me the consignment number.
According to the interlink express??tracking site,??a delivery was attempted at 12:14 on monday, and a card left
like FUCK, not only was I actually in at 12:14, but they never left a card
I reckon the dipshit driver could not find my house??(??Try this in google earth??51??51’2.49″N, ?? 2??11’48.77″W)
and you will see my house is not near the cul-de-sac, but my address is the cel-de-sac, not the main road which passed the front of my house !!
dumb cul-de-sac layout means while my house (No 3)??is next to No 2, but not next to No 4, go figure !
but the foreign fools at pizza hut sem to be able to find it !!!
so it cant be that difficult !!!!!!
Been Away again this weekend just gone,
had a small dilemma, it was my week for primary callout, so I had to be within 30-45 minutes of a good internet connection and have good mobile phone coverage, normally this is not a problem, but if I get called out at 0200 and have been drinking, driving to the nearest McDonalds, is not a good plan !!
SO enter the wife???s worst nightmare, a campsite with WiFi !
Arrive on site, setup the caravan etc, crack out the beer :-)??, and go for a wander round with the PDA, not a bad setup, netgear 8dB twig on the main building, and a second one??with WiFI AP in repeater mode in the second field, NICE !!!
Sure enough, I get called out, a noddy called out, but still an official excuse to try the wifi 🙂
Used the Netgear USB adaptor I have, as this proves more reliable that the built in card in the jujitsu craptop I have for work, it is also a lot easier to more around for best signal !
Voila, network up, VPN up, logged on , all sorted, back to the beer !!!!!
